Silvalac welcomes SBTi validation of the decarbonization targets of its parent company, Armando Alvarez Group
01/04/2025

Silvalac welcomes the decarbonization commitment of Armando Alvarez Group, of which we are part, whose targets have recently been validated by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. This scientific validation is a fundamental step in the Group’s sustainability strategy, which seeks to reduce the environmental impact of all its activities through measurable actions aligned with global climate targets.
As a leader in flexible packaging solutions, we share not only the vision of innovation, but also the responsibility to transform our business model into a more sustainable one, from the manufacturing to the final delivery of our solutions.
Decarbonization targets: a roadmap towards 2033
The Armando Alvarez Group is committed to significantly reducing its greenhouse gas emissions over the next ten years, setting specific targets that break down as follows:
- 2% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2033, taking 2023 as the base year. These emissions include all emissions generated directly by the Group’s activities (e.g., energy use in production plants).
- A 34.7% reduction in Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions associated with the entire value chain of the Group’s companies, such as the transportation of goods, suppliers, product use and waste treatment.
This commitment by the Armando Alvarez Group also reinforces our current and future work at Silvalac on environmental sustainability and drives us to adopt even more demanding measures to minimize our carbon footprint.
A science-based validation: the support of SBTi
The above targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international initiative that defines and promotes best practices in science-based corporate climate target setting.
SBTi is supported by leading sustainability and climate organizations such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). This validation ensures that the Armando Alvarez Group’s goals are aligned with the scenario of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the Paris Agreement.
Sustainability in action: solutions that reduce impact
At Silvalac we don’t just talk about sustainability, we incorporate it into every stage of development of our flexible packaging solutions. Our product innovation focuses on:
- 100% mono-material and recyclable films, such as MDO-PE, which facilitate the circular economy.
- Thickness reduction without compromising strength, such as our Alvastretch stretch film, which translates into lower raw material usage and weight reduction in transportation.
- Compatibility with mechanical and advanced recycling processes to extend the useful life of materials.
- Low-temperature sealing films that improve energy efficiency in packaging, helping to optimize operating costs and minimize environmental impact.
These solutions not only meet the demands of today’s customers committed to minimizing the impact of their activities on the environment, but also help reduce emissions at every stage of the product life cycle.
A commitment aligned with our ESG criteria
The Armando Alvarez Group’s decarbonization strategy is part of a comprehensive approach based on ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance) that we also share at Silvalac:
- Environmental (E): emissions reduction, waste minimization, development of recyclable products, efficient resource management and responsible energy use.
- Social (S): safety, diversity, well-being of our employees and close collaboration with customers and communities.
- Governance (G): transparency, regulatory compliance, business ethics and continuous improvement of our management processes.
These principles form the basis of our organizational culture and guide all our strategic decisions, from the selection of raw materials to our relationships with suppliers and customers.
